A Program Honoring The Legacy Of John “Casey” Wells

WellsWishesLogoWells Wishes honors the legacy of Casey Wells by giving all members of the Erie Community equal access to live entertainment regardless of financial status or ability to pay. The program awards complimentary tickets to local events based on an applicant’s passion for the arts and sports, need, and compelling story. Wells Wishes will impact, encourage, and leave pathways to cultivate community enrichment through diverse entertainment experiences.

Interested individuals or groups are encouraged to participate and apply for opportunities in our facilities which include the Warner Theatre, Erie Insurance Arena, Bayfront Convention Center & UPMC Park. These opportunities grant complimentary tickets to events such as Broadway In Erie performances, nationally touring artists, family shows, Erie Otters or Erie SeaWolves games.

Applications will be reviewed by a panel consisting of Erie Events employees, Board members, tenant representatives and the Wells family. The selection will be based on a blend of passion for the arts and sports, need and a compelling story.

 About John “Casey” Wells

For over 40 years, John “Casey” Wells was employed by the Erie County Convention Center Authority and was instrumental in the development and completion of nearly $300 million in projects that included the Erie Insurance Arena, Warner Theatre, Bayfront Convention Center, UPMC Park, the Sheraton and Marriott Hotels and the development along Erie’s Bayfront. Through his dedication and tireless efforts, Mr. Wells significantly increased the economic development in Erie, enhanced the quality of life and provided the Erie community with first-class convention, sports and entertainment facilities.

In 1983, Mr. Wells began his career with the Erie County Convention Center Authority as the Operations Manager and in 1992, was named the Executive Director. After 31 years as the Executive Director, Mr. Wells retired in January 2023 to spend more time with his wife, Jill, their 5 children and eleven grandchildren.
